My name is Casey and I am the designer behind Casey D. Sibley Art + Design, a Reno, NV based studio specializing in hand-drawn and hand-painted artwork for textiles in a happy modern style. I design colorful and bold fabrics for homegoods and personal accessories, meant to be used daily and inspire a happy life. With a background in architecture and a love of pattern, my goal is to bring you products that are not only functional, but also beautiful and well-made.
Each new design begins in my sketchbook or as an acrylic painting, and the artwork is made into repeating patterns for digital textile printing. Every print and pattern in my shop is my original creation and each product is cut and sewn in Reno and Carson City by myself and a small team of home sewers. Most of my pattern designs are inspired by nature and evolve through mark-making and exploring new printing techniques.
My products are produced in short runs locally to reduce unused inventory and waste, and fabric scraps are donated to local schools, crafters, and organizations for reuse in new projects. My sewers work from home, allowing them flexibility with their work and offering me a helping hand with the thousands of CDS A+D products going out each year.
Digitally Printed Fabrics: I use two U.S. companies to digitally print my designs onto fabrics. This method allows me to quickly print yardage on heavy weight fabric that I use for the sewn products in my line. This printing method is versatile, low-waste, and uses non-toxic water-based inks that are vibrant and permanent for a very high-quality product.
Hand-Printed Fabrics: I also experiment with a variety of traditional printing methods, including block printing with handmade stamps, hand-painting, and screen printing. At the heart of everything I do is a constant curiosity about how products can be made, and a never-ending exploration into how to make them better through iteration. This method allows me to experiment and play with new ideas, while embracing the slow craft of totally handmade items. I occasionally release limited runs of my hand-printed products and also teach classes locally about my favorite hand-printing and painting methods.
Originally from Mississippi, I moved to Reno in 2011, where I live with my husband, Alan, and our two adorable pups, Scout and Hux. This business was started shortly after our move, when I started selling artwork online while searching for a "real job" in my first career of architecture. I've been cultivating a livelihood around my creativity ever since!
These days, I work on Casey D. Sibley Art + Design full time, a huge personal goal realized. Over the last couple of years, the business has evolved so much. I started out just wanting to create something. Following that urge to create and being open to discovery and change led me to where I am today.
In 2016 I ran a successful Kickstarter campaign to raise money to cover the costs of exhibiting my products at the NY Now Trade Show. You can see the campaign below!
